The right fabric for the room.
Roller blinds are the default choice in most Albury homes because one product covers nearly every window. The trick is matching the fabric to how the room is used and which way it faces. In the Riverina, where summer afternoons regularly push past 35 degrees, fabric choice is the difference between a comfortable living room and a baking one.
- Blockout: Full light block and night privacy. The standard pick for bedrooms across Lavington and Thurgoona, and for west-facing rooms that cop the worst afternoon sun. ~$140-$280 per window.
- Light-filter: Softens light and gives daytime privacy while keeping the room bright. Good for hallways, kitchens and studies. ~$120-$240 per window.
- Sunscreen: An open weave that cuts glare and blocks most UV while keeping your view to the Murray or the Hume hills. The living-room favourite. ~$150-$300 per window.
- Double-roller: A sunscreen and a blockout on one bracket, so you switch from glare control by day to full privacy at night. The best all-rounder for open-plan living. Adds ~$90-$160 per window.
A worked example.
A typical Thurgoona four-bedroom home: blockout rollers in the four bedrooms (around $200 each), a double-roller across the open-plan living and dining (two larger blinds around $360 each), and light-filter rollers in the two wet areas (around $150 each). That comes in near $2,180 supplied and installed, before any motorisation. Add quiet battery motors to the two living blinds and you are looking at roughly $2,700 all up.
Cordless and motorised for child safety.
Corded internal blinds must meet the mandatory ACCC safety standard, and every corded blind we fit includes the required cord guides and tension devices. In homes with young children we usually recommend cordless spring operation or motorisation instead, which removes the cord hazard altogether. If you want to go fully automated, see our motorised blinds page.
